Lake Forest College provides reasonable accommodations to afford equal access to educational opportunities as instructed by Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
If a student has a disability that prevents equal access to the College’s programming, accommodations may be requested to support an equitable opportunity to participate in that programming.
The Americans with Disabilities Act defines disability as:
A physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities,
A person who has a history or record of such an impairment;
A person who is perceived by others as having such an impairment
Individuals who qualify due to either of the first two categories may be eligible for accommodations. Reasonable accommodations are not determined based on disability or diagnosis alone. An individual's disability and potential impacts compared to nondisabled individuals in similar circumstances is reviewed to determine what may be reasonable in compliance with state and federal laws.
Accommodation requests are a student-lead process, more information about the process, the application to request accommodations, and documentation guidelines can be found on the Accessibility Services website.
Grievance Procedure
Lake Forest College is committed to ensuring that no otherwise qualified individual with a disability is excluded from participation in, subjected to discrimination in connection with, or denied the benefits of College programs or activities due to disability.
If an individual with a disability believes they have experienced bias or discrimination because of their disability, as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended and/or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, they may submit a formal complaint through the Lake Forest College Equal Opportunity, Harassment and Nondiscrimination Policy.
