Course Description
(The Laws and Ethics of Artificial Intelligence) This course introduces students to the legal, regulatory, ethical, and policy issues arising from the increasing use of artificial intelligence in society. The course begins with readings on the history of AI, from expert systems up to current generative and reasoning AI models. We study the use of AI by individuals, organizations, and governments. A focus of the course is on domestic and international legal frameworks and regulations governing AI, for example, data protection, privacy, and cybersecurity. Additionally, students learn about current trends in AI ethics, such as fairness and bias in models, and the issues concerning AI safety and alignment. No prerequisites.
